Unless you’re visiting this site for the very first time (in which case, welcome, and thanks for stopping by), you’ve probably noticed that I’ve made some pretty significant changes since you were last here.
The bad news
If you registered with the old site (shortformvideo.com), then I’m afraid you’ll need to provide your details again if you want to download any of the content. This is entirely my fault. Basically, I didn’t put enough thought into the last site structure, and as a result I’d estimate that many of its 10,000+ subscribers were actually created by bots looking for a back door to post spam in the comments section (or worse).
As there’s no easy way to work out which of these are real and which aren’t, I’m afraid the only thing I can do is to scrap it and start again. This was not an easy decision – no-one like to ditch thousands of subscriptions. I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.
And now for the good news
Because I’ve rebuilt the site from scratch, you’ll get the following benefits:
- All of the project files have been upgraded to Full HD, and include three versions; CS5.5, CS6 and CC.
- The file management system is much improved, so there should be fewer issues with broken downloads.
- Registration has been replaced by a simpler system, which will let you re-download files as often as you need.
- The new web host should be significantly faster than before.
- You can now browse through all the downloadable content without having to wade through individual posts.
- It looks much prettier. Seriously – the previous site looked very dated.
If you hadn’t already noticed, I’m also planning to launch two new services – Premium Content and Customise This.
My Premium Content will include project files that go beyond the scope of the current collection of free content. I’ll still be adding tutorials and the free project files that go with them, but you’ll also be able to buy professional-grade templates for use in your projects.
On top of this, I’ll be setting up Customise This! – a service that will give you a fully-customised, ready-to-use video file. To be honest, I’m not quite sure how it’s going to work at this stage, and I’m also working out a pricing structure, but my ambition is to make it easy and low-cost. So it should be ideal for those who don’t have the time (or don’t have the applications or plug-ins that I do) to create something from scratch.
A Newsletter (if you want it)
To be honest, if you’re not interested in the newsletter, that’s absolutely fine by me. I’ve set up two-step confirmation to make sure that you’ll only get it if a) you’re a real person and b) you really want to subscribe. You can still use Facebook, Twitter or RSS to stay on top of new content as it’s posted. It’s entirely up to you. I’m not planning on sending this out more than twice a month, and it goes without saying that your email address will never be sold on.
But the best news of all (hopefully)…
…is that I’m back! It’s been a while, and I’ve let this site run on empty for too long. With your help, I’m hoping to build it into a much more interesting place. If you have any suggestions as to how I can improve anything, please leave a comment below. I’m really interested to hear what you think.
